There are two very interesting brackets of "ship knee" pattern under the beams which cross the kitchen in the line with the chimney girts. These beams could not be securely fastened to the posts of the older work and the brackets were put in to hold the ends and to tie them to the posts.


   (About 1820) the ceilings in the kitchen and workroom (were concealed behind a layer of lath and plaster) but not before the pantry was removed to enlarge the kitchen.
