In the Entry is a right hand staircase with posts and rail of oak and balusters and string of pine. Possibly the balusters are larch. The rail may have come from the original stair,, which this construction certainly is not.
The front door always opened into the lobby entrance where it does today. The size of the lobby and the location of the staircase has changed three times as chimney stacks were pulled down and rebuilt, but the main entrance was always on the north side.
